The Ancient Egypt party was a blast!  The kids wrote their names with the use of Ancient Egyptian writing called heiroglyphics onto peices of paper cut out into little tablets...very cute.
Here is a picture of the hieroglypic symbols we used:

Then they made little mummies to go inside an egg carton sarcophagus....another creative idea:

While they were making their mummies, we dined on Egyptian foods.  Such as figs, dates, grapes, pomegranates, raisins & and other dried fruits.

The kids gobbled it up before I could take a picture of everything...but here's what was left:

Our activity was last and ended up being fun for all the kids.  First we talked about the 3 different types of pyramids:

and TYPICAL or STANDARD PYRAMID
Then we discussed the structure of the pyramid and passed out our pretzels & marshmallows to begin construction.
Here is Dagyn's ...she's so proud of herself.  It wasn't an easy thing to do...the pretzels didn't always want to stick to the marshmallows.

And here are Dyxon (left) and Devyn (right) making theirs.  Notice Dyxon's concentration....tongue sticking out!  He gets that from his Daddy.  ;)

And here is Dyson in the lower right-hand corner concentrating very closely on his pyramid construction.
Denym is being held by my friend Aubree in the background on the left.  She was so good for Aubree too.  Which helped me out a lot since I was running around assisting the children with constructing their pyramids & passing out more marshmallows.  For some reason they kept disappearing...hmmm?

And a party in the Arizona heat would not be complete without WATERMELON....YUMMY!!!

It would be OK to say that the kids had fun.

Next month we are traveling to ANCIENT CHINA!

We are currently studying Ancient Egypt for History/Geography from The Story of the World, Vol. 1 and we are off to a History Party coordinated by my friend Aubree Jolley.
Unfortunately we got mixed up on the date/day of the party so we aren't as prepared as we hoped to be for this event.  However, we are still planning on going and will blog more when we get back...& I will include pics of the event.
We are also bringing an activity....Pretzel Pyramids with Marshmallow Mortar...should be fun!

My Friend Shiloah Baker of Homemaking Cottage is having a contest to give away a copy of this new book, Raising Real Men.
Those of you with sons do NOT want to miss out on this!

As a mom to 6 children (4 of them being boys) I am always curious to see how families (more specifically mom's) raise their sons...especially since I primarily grew up in a household of ONLY girls (no dad, no brothers).

This book has not yet been released to the public.  But, you can preorder a copy if you don't win.  Click on the picture of the book cover for a link to the authors' website or here for my friend's blog post on this book & enter to win.

I thought this was interesting poll regarding what the primary reason most Christian parents send their children to secular public schools instead of private or home schooling.  I found it in an article:  Christians called to mass exodus from public schools.

Ok, so we decided to homeschool our children and a friend of mine said I should start a blog [thanks Jill].  I hope it will serve as not only for a personal journal but so others may to turn to it for inspiration & support.  I have always enjoyed reading other's blogs but did not really know how to get started on my own...so here it goes...

Chris & I have done some research and we have decided that [what would best suit our family] would be a "leadership education".  So we are beginning to apply the Thomas Jefferson Education method to our life.  We believe it will have the best framework for the education we want to provide for our children.

Here are some more links with information that we have been leaning towards with curriculum/structure and are contemplating as well:

The Story of the World:  History

KImbCo Curriculum:  Math, Social Studies, Science

Kindred Learning (home of the Four Year Plan)

Glenn Doman:  Reading

Well, that's about as good as it gets for my starting blog....I've got 6 children to tend to and teach.  Until next time...
